I was born at York Hospital in York, PA. At the time it was one imposing red brick building although now it is a massive complex. Naturally I don't remember being born, but I do remember spending a night there in 1973 after surgery to correct a broken finger.

I had broken my finger playing the 1st game of the year. It was freshman football and we were playing York Catholic in a field a few hundred yards from my earlier childhood home on Edgar Street. It was the 4th play of the 2nd half and I tried to block a punt. The blocker put a shoulder into me and the knuckle of my middle finger snapped off. I played the rest of the game protecting my left hand, but it hurt like the dickens.

Upon returning home and showing my parents my disfigured hand it was off to York Hospital where the put 2 pins in the joint. As a result I walked around for several weeks with my middle finger extended.
At this time the whole country was excited about an upcoming tennis match between Bobby Riggs and Billy Jean King. He was a smack-talking, 50-something former tennis player who challenged the #1 women's player in the world. He had to defend the whole court, while she only had to defend the inner lines. It was called the Battle of the Sexes. But I missed the whole thing because I was too sleepy and sick from the anesthesia.
